How to Stay Motivated to Maintain Your Good Health

We’ve all been there—you start a new fitness plan, feel SUPER stoked about it, and then…fast forward a few weeks…your motivation starts to fizzle out.

I mean, how the heck do people stay motivated to maintain their health day in, day out?

Well, I’ve gathered my TOP tips and tricks for keeping that motivation train chugging along.

Plus, I’ve got some killer resources to help you stick to your health goals!

So, get ready to feel #MotivatedAF.

The “Why” Behind Your Goals (and how to find it, if you haven’t)

Let’s face it—motivation doesn’t just MAGICALLY appear. It’s deeply rooted in your why—the reason behind why you’re pursuing your health goals.

So, what’s your why? Is it to have more energy to keep up with your kids, or maybe to feel more confident in your own skin?

Whatever it is, identifying and understanding your why is the key to staying motivated! Not sure what your why is?

Break it Down: Set Smaller Goals and Celebrate Wins

Big goals can be SUPER overwhelming. So, while it’s important to have those big, bad health goals, it’s also VITAL to break them down into smaller, more manageable goals.

Plus, when you hit those smaller milestones, you can toot your own horn and celebrate!

Trust me; those mini-celebrations make a HUGE difference when it comes to staying motivated.

Need some help breaking down those goals and nailing down a game plan?

Consider using a goal planner for breaking down health goals and staying on track.

The Buddy System: Get Accountable

Think back to those elementary school days when we had to use the “buddy system” on field trips—there’s something about knowing someone else is counting on us that really keeps us motivated, right?

The same goes for health and fitness goals! Grab a friend or family member, or join a group online and get ACCOUNTABLE. Trust me, you’ll think twice about hitting that snooze button when you know someone’s waiting for you at the gym.

Fuel Your Motivation: Stay Inspired

Sometimes, motivation is all about seeing what’s possible and what others have achieved. Get yourself a dose of daily inspo by following some influencers in the health and fitness world.

Head over to Instagram, Pinterest, or YouTube to find people who share your interests and goals—and will make you want to jump out of bed and CRUSH your workout (and yes, I mean LITERALLY crush it, like break it down into tiny little workout pieces… you get it )

Mindset is Key: Shift Your Perspective

We all know that a negative mindset can be a major motivation killer. On the flip side, maintaining a positive attitude can do wonders to keep you on track.

Start by shifting your perspective—when I think of my health goals, I don’t focus on what I’m giving up (like those sweets) or how hard it is to stay motivated. Instead, I think about all the amazing things that come WITH being healthy—more energy, better sleep, more confidence…the list goes on!

Utilize Positive Affirmations

Do you know what’s REALLY powerful? The way you talk to yourself. Yep, it’s true! So why not give yourself a little pep talk every now and then? Repeat after me: “I AM strong. I AM capable. I WILL crush my goals.” Can you believe the power in those words?

Don’t Be Afraid To Mix it up

Doing the same thing day in and day out can make anyone feel like a hamster on a wheel.

BORING! Why not add some spice to your fitness routine? Try a new class, a different type of workout, or maybe even take up a fun new sport!

Give Yourself a Break (Yes, You Read That Right)

Sometimes, the BEST way to stay motivated is to give yourself a well-deserved break. I mean, who says you have to go at it 24/7?

Not me! And you shouldn’t either. Take a moment to relax, recharge, and refocus.

Consider taking a leisurely walk with a loved one. Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s vital!

Keep a Progress Journal

Nothing’s more motivating than seeing how far you’ve come, right? So, how about keeping a progress journal? Every week, jot down what you’ve accomplished, how you feel, and what you’re aiming for next.

Surround Yourself With Supportive Peeps

We’re all human, and let’s be honest. We need each other. Surrounding yourself with friends and family who support your goals makes a world of difference.

You know what they say, “Teamwork makes the dream work!”

Wrap it up: Your Health Journey is Yours

Remember the key takeaways: setting realistic goals, finding an accountability buddy, and celebrating those small victories.

To sum it up, staying motivated to maintain your health ain’t easy, but it’s not impossible either.

We’re all in this together, figuring out how to make it work and laughing at our epic fails along the way (because we’ve all been there).

So, here’s to taking one step at a time and promising ourselves to never stop trying.
